  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs

  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)
  • ½ cup cream cheese, softened (for frosting)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour mini heart-shaped cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour. Mix until just combined.
  6. If desired, add a few drops of red or pink food coloring and gently swirl for a marbled effect.
  7. Pour batter into prepared pans, filling each about 2/3 full.
  8. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Allow cakes to cool completely before removing from pans.
  10. For frosting, beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, mixing until fluffy.
  11. Frost the cooled mini heart cakes and decorate as desired.
