This Turkey Burger Chili is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines lean ground turkey with classic chili spices, perfect for a healthy and comforting meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground turkey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 cup water or broth
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)
  • Shredded cheddar cheese (optional, for serving)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced onion and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  2. Add minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
  3. Add ground turkey to the skillet. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes.
  4. Stir in chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. Cook for 1 minute to toast the spices.
  5. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, kidney beans, and water or broth. Stir to combine.
  6. Bring the chili to a simmer, reduce heat to low, and cook uncovered for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasonings if needed. Remove from heat.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with sliced green onions and shredded cheddar cheese if desired.

Notes

For extra depth of flavor, let the chili simmer longer or prepare it a day ahead to let the spices meld. Serve with cornbread or over cooked rice for a heartier meal.
