Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole

This Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole combines the natural sweetness of maple syrup with creamy sweet potatoes, topped with a crunchy pecan crumble for a perfect balance of flavors and textures.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 large sweet potatoes)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cold and cubed

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, maple syrup, melted butter, milk, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt. Mix until smooth and well incorporated.
  3. Pour the sweet potato mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine chopped pecans, brown sugar, flour, and cold cubed butter. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the pecan crumble evenly over the sweet potato layer.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the casserole is heated through.
  7. Allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm as a side dish or dessert.

Notes

For an extra festive touch, drizzle a little extra maple syrup over each serving or add mini marshmallows on top during the last 10 minutes of baking.
