Delight in these crispy, cinnamon-sugar coated twists made from sourdough discard, perfect as a sweet snack or breakfast treat.

  • 1 cup sourdough discard
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • Additional cinnamon sugar mix (1/4 cup sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon) for coating

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, mix sourdough discard, flour, sugar, cinnamon, salt, and baking powder until a soft dough forms.
  3. Turn dough onto a floured surface and roll out into a rectangle about 1/4-inch thick.
  4. Brush melted butter evenly over the dough surface.
  5. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mix evenly on top.
  6. Cut dough into thin strips, about 1/2 inch wide.
  7. Twist each strip several times and place them on the baking sheet, spacing apart.
  8. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  9. Allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For extra indulgence, drizzle with a simple vanilla glaze once cooled or serve alongside a hot cup of coffee or tea.
