Crispy, flavorful sourdough cheese crackers that combine tangy sourdough starter with sharp cheddar for a perfect snack or appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sourdough starter (discard or fed)
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • 4 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
  • 1-2 tablespoons cold water (as needed)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, flour, salt, and garlic powder.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.
  5. Add cold water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together into a firm ball.
  6. Roll the dough out on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8-inch thickness.
  7. Cut into desired shapes using a knife or cookie cutter and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  8. Prick each cracker lightly with a fork to prevent puffing.
  9. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until golden and crisp.
  10. Allow crackers to cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of smoked paprika or fresh herbs on top before baking. Store in an airtight container to maintain crispness.
