Shrimp Dirty Rice

Shrimp Dirty Rice is a flavorful Cajun-inspired dish combining spicy shrimp with seasoned rice, vegetables, and herbs for a hearty and satisfying meal.

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 cups cooked white rice
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions
  • 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery; sauté until vegetables are tender, about 5 minutes.
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add shrimp, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper; cook until shrimp turn pink and opaque, about 4-5 minutes.
  5. Pour in chicken broth and let it reduce slightly, about 2 minutes.
  6. Add cooked rice to the skillet and stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients and heat through.
  7. Remove from heat and stir in chopped green onions and parsley.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with extra parsley if desired.

Notes

For a spicier kick, add extra cayenne pepper or top with hot sauce. This dish pairs well with a side of steamed greens or a crisp green salad.
