Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box (15.25 oz) chocolate cake mix, plus ingredients called for on the box
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cups mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, halved or quartered

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. Prepare the chocolate cake batter according to the package directions.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the sour cream, peanut butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk. Beat until smooth and creamy.
  4. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan.
  5. Spoon dollops of the peanut butter mixture over the cake batter.
  6. Sprinkle the halved or quartered Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups evenly over the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs.
  8. Let cool completely before slicing and serving. The center will be soft and gooey – that’s the “earthquake” effect!

Notes

For an extra touch, drizzle melted chocolate or peanut butter over the cooled cake before serving. You can also add a sprinkle of chopped peanuts.
