  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the egg, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar to the butter mixture; mix until combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to form a soft dough.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls, then roll each ball in powdered sugar to coat.
  7. Place the dough balls 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets and gently flatten them slightly.
  8. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until edges are set but centers remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
