pink Maraschino Cherry Sugar Cookies

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons Maraschino cherry juice
  • ⅓ cup finely chopped Maraschino cherries, drained
  • Pink food coloring (optional)
  • Additional granulated sugar for rolling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and Maraschino cherry juice until well combined. Add a few drops of pink food coloring if desired.
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined, then fold in the chopped Maraschino cherries.
  6. Roll dough into 1-inch balls and gently roll each in granulated sugar.
  7. Place cookies 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, or until edges are lightly golden but centers remain soft.
  9. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra cherry flavor, try adding a teaspoon of maraschino cherry syrup to the dough or garnish cookies with a small cherry half on top before baking.
