  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 large orange
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • ¼ cup brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and ground cloves.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Lightly press each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in brown sugar to create a slight crunch and sugar coating.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden and the centers are set.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra burst of citrus, drizzle melted white chocolate over the cooled cookies before serving.
