Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 (28 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 pound pasta (penne, rotini, or elbow macaroni)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for garlic butter)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook for 2-3 minutes, or until softened.
  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, beef broth, pasta, oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until pasta is cooked through. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  4. While the pasta is cooking, prepare the garlic butter. In a small saucepan, melt butter over low heat. Add minced garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes, or until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.
  5. Once the pasta is cooked, stir in the garlic butter.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately.

Notes

For a richer flavor, add a splash of red wine vinegar or Worcestershire sauce to the pot before simmering. Serve with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese, if desired.
