Omurice Japanese Rice Omelet

Omurice is a popular Japanese comfort food featuring a fluffy omelet wrapped around savory fried rice, blending Western and Japanese flavors into a delicious meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups cooked Japanese short-grain rice
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup cooked chicken breast, diced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • Optional: chopped parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat and sauté the onion until translucent.
  2. Add diced chicken and cook until heated through.
  3. Stir in the cooked rice, ketchup, and soy sauce; mix well to combine and season with salt and pepper. Remove from heat.
  4. Beat the eggs lightly with a pinch of salt.
  5. In a separate non-stick pan, melt butter and pour in the beaten eggs, cooking until the edges begin to set but the center remains slightly runny.
  6. Place the fried rice mixture onto the center of the omelet.
  7. Carefully fold the edges of the omelet over the rice to enclose it.
  8. Gently slide the omurice onto a plate and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve immediately.

Notes

For a creamier texture, add a splash of milk to the beaten eggs before cooking. Serve with additional ketchup or a drizzle of demi-glace sauce for extra flavor.
