Hidden Heart Chocolate Loaf Cake

A delightful chocolate loaf cake featuring a surprise hidden heart inside, perfect for celebrations or a special treat.

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 100g dark chocolate, melted (for heart shape)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a loaf pan.
  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time to the butter mixture, beating well after each addition.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Alternately add the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the surface.
  8. Pour melted dark chocolate into a small heart-shaped mold and freeze until firm, about 30 minutes.
  9. Remove the chocolate heart from the mold and gently press it vertically into the center of the batter in the loaf pan.
  10. Cover the heart with the remaining batter and smooth the top.
  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until a skewer inserted comes out clean.
  12. Let the cake cool completely before removing from the pan.
  13. Slice to reveal the hidden chocolate heart and dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For an extra indulgent touch, serve slices with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
