Heart-Shaped Cupcakes

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Red or pink food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease heart-shaped cupcake molds.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time into the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.
  5. Mix in vanilla extract.
  6. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and milk to the wet ingredients, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  7. Fill the heart-shaped molds about 2/3 full with batter.
  8. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cupcakes cool completely on a wire rack.
  10. For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  11. Gradually add powdered sugar, mixing well after each addition.
  12. Add heavy cream and vanilla extract, continue beating until smooth and fluffy.
  13. If desired, add a few drops of red or pink food coloring and mix until the color is even.
  14. Frost the cooled cupcakes using a piping bag or spatula.

Notes

For an extra special touch, sprinkle edible glitter or heart-shaped sprinkles on top of the frosting before serving.
