Homemade Hamburger Gravy on Mashed Potatoes

This easy hamburger gravy is a comforting and budget-friendly meal perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, or biscuits. It’s quick to make and packed with flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Sprinkle flour over the cooked ground beef and stir well to coat. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Gradually pour in beef broth, stirring continuously to prevent lumps from forming.
  4. Add milk, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened to your desired consistency.
  6. Season with salt to taste. Serve hot.

Notes

Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, biscuits, or toast. For a richer flavor, use beef broth with a higher sodium content and reduce added salt. You can also add sauteed onions or mushrooms for extra flavor.
