These adorable Halloween Whoopie Pies are a spooky and delicious treat! Soft, chocolatey cookies sandwich a creamy vanilla filling, decorated with festive sprinkles for a perfect Halloween dessert.

  • For the Cookies:
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • For the Filling:
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoons milk
  • Halloween sprinkles, for decoration

Instructions

  1. Make the Cookies: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla.
  4. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  5. Drop by rounded tablespoons onto prepared baking sheets.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until cookies spring back lightly when touched.
  7. Let cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Make the Filling: In a large bowl, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy.
  9. Stir in vanilla extract and milk until desired consistency is reached.
  10. Assemble the Whoopie Pies: Spread a generous amount of filling on the flat side of one cookie. Top with another cookie, flat side down.
  11. Roll the edges of the whoopie pies in Halloween sprinkles.
  12. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container.

Notes

For an extra spooky touch, use orange or black food coloring to tint the filling!
