Dutch Caramel Apple Pie Recipe

Delicious Dutch Caramel Apple Pie

This Dutch Caramel Apple Pie features a buttery, crumbly topping and a gooey caramel apple filling. It’s the perfect comforting dessert for fall, with a delightful blend of textures and sweet-tart flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6-7 medium apples (such as Honeycrisp, Gala, or Fuji), peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce, store-bought or homemade
  • For the Crumb Topping:
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) cold unsalted butter, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Toss to coat evenly.
  2. Make the Crumb Topping: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Assemble the Pie: Pour the apple filling into a 9-inch pie dish. Drizzle the caramel sauce evenly over the apples.
  4. Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the caramel-apple filling.
  5. Bake: Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 45-55 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. If the topping starts to brown too quickly, cover the pie with foil.
  6. Cool: Let the pie cool completely on a wire rack before slicing and serving. This allows the filling to set properly.

Notes

Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an extra decadent treat.
