Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3 ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a small bowl, mash the bananas. Stir the mashed bananas and sour cream into the wet ingredients.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
  6. Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For an extra chocolatey flavor, drizzle melted chocolate over the cooled bread. Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a truly indulgent dessert.
