Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup sour cream
  • Food coloring gels (red, blue, yellow, green)
  • Optional: ½ teaspoon almond extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and sour cream until well combined. (Add almond extract if using.)
  5. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until a smooth dough forms.
  6. Divide dough evenly into 4–5 bowls; add a different food coloring gel to each and knead until color is fully incorporated.
  7. Take small pieces from each colored dough and gently roll together to create a marbled effect, then form into 1-inch balls.
  8. Place dough balls onto prepared baking sheets about 2 inches apart; slightly flatten each ball.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
