Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 3 1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for topping)
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • 1 egg white, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture and melted butter to the flour mixture and knead until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough and divide into 8 equal pieces; shape each piece into a ball and poke a hole through the center to form bagels.
  6. Let shaped bagels rest for 15 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and bring a large pot of water to a boil.
  8. Boil bagels, 2-3 at a time, for 1 minute on each side, then remove with a slotted spoon and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  9. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a shallow dish.
  10. Brush boiled bagels with egg white, then dip into the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat evenly.
  11. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  12. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For an extra indulgent treat, serve these bagels warm with cream cheese or butter. You can also add raisins or nuts to the dough for additional texture and flavor.
