Christmas Cookies with Orange Juice

Delight in these festive Christmas cookies infused with fresh orange juice, offering a bright citrus twist to your holiday baking.

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup fresh orange juice
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • ½ tsp ground cinnamon
  • Optional: colored sugar or sprinkles for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, orange juice, vanilla extract, and orange zest until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  6. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheets, spaced about 2 inches apart.
  7. Flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand or the bottom of a glass.
  8. Decorate with colored sugar or sprinkles if desired.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are just beginning to turn golden.
  10. Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra festive flavor, try adding finely chopped candied ginger or substituting half the orange juice with lemon juice.
