Funnel Cake

Funnel cake is a classic American fair treat featuring crispy, deep-fried batter dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for a sweet snack or dessert.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil, for frying (vegetable or canola oil)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In another bowl, beat the eggs, then add milk and vanilla extract; mix well.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth and free of lumps.
  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large deep pan to 375°F (190°C).
  5. Pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle and carefully drizzle into hot oil in a circular, overlapping pattern.
  6. Fry until golden brown on one side, about 2-3 minutes, then flip and fry the other side.
  7. Remove funnel cake with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dust generously with powdered sugar before serving warm.
